When a Car Cannot Reach Your Hotel Door

Not every hotel in Istanbul has a door a car can stop at.

Some sit on streets with tram lines running down them, where stopping is not allowed and not possible. Some are on lanes that are pedestrian-only during the day. In the oldest parts of the city there are streets that end in steps, and streets so narrow that a van physically will not fit.

This surprises people, and it should not. These are usually the most desirable places to stay — the reason the street is quiet and charming is the same reason a vehicle cannot sit outside it.

It Is Not a Problem. Not Knowing Is.

A driver who learns about this on the morning of your departure has a problem. A driver who knew a week ago does not.

When we know in advance, we agree a point nearby where the car can wait properly: a corner, a square, the front of a named shop — somewhere fixed, easy to describe and a short walk from your door. You get that spot in writing before the day, along with your driver's name, phone number and the car details.

That is the whole solution. It is not complicated. It just has to happen before the morning you are catching a flight.

Tell Us the Hotel Name, Not Just the District

This is the practical ask, and it costs you nothing.

When you book, give us the hotel's full name. We can look at where it actually is. "Sultanahmet" tells us a district; the hotel name tells us the street, and the street is what decides whether the car can reach you.

If you booked with only a district and you are reading this now, send us the name. It takes one message and removes the entire question.

If You Have Luggage or Someone Who Cannot Walk Far

Say so. A two-minute walk is nothing with a backpack and a great deal with three suitcases and a tired child.

When that is the situation, we look harder: sometimes there is a service entrance on a different street, sometimes the hotel can help move bags to the pickup point, sometimes there is a better corner slightly further away that is flat rather than uphill. These are not things you should be working out at seven in the morning with your cases in the lobby.

On the Day Itself

Come out at the agreed time, walk to the agreed spot, and if anything looks different from what you expected, message us before you start wandering. We would rather talk you around a corner than have you drag bags in the wrong direction.
