Bursa was the first Ottoman capital and it sits well outside Istanbul. Plenty of visitors decide to go; rather fewer work out how they are getting there before they land.
Bursa was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, and it is far enough from Istanbul that reaching it is a proper journey rather than a taxi ride.
People go for Uludağ, for the historic bazaars, and for the İskender kebab the city invented. Rather fewer work out how they are getting there before they land.
It Is Not a Day Trip You Improvise
This is the part worth saying plainly. Bursa is outside Istanbul, and a journey that leaves the city is not something to sort out at the arrivals hall at eleven at night with three suitcases and a tired child.
You can reach Bursa on public transport, and if you are travelling light it is a perfectly reasonable way to go. With luggage it becomes a different proposition. Every change is a point where something can go wrong, and doing it straight off a long-haul flight, in a country whose alphabet you may not read, is not the gentle introduction most people were hoping for.
A private transfer is one vehicle and one driver. The bags go in at the airport and come out at your hotel.
Both Airports Work
Istanbul Airport is on the European side, Sabiha Gökçen on the Asian one. For some destinations that changes everything — Lake Sapanca, for instance, is much better reached from Sabiha Gökçen.
Bursa is not one of those destinations. Both airports work, so book whichever flight suits your schedule and your budget, and let the road be our problem.
Vehicles and Luggage
A Mercedes Vito takes up to 6 passengers and 8 suitcases, which covers most families comfortably.
A Mercedes V-Class is the same journey with more room per person — the choice for a long drive when comfort matters more than capacity.
A Mercedes Sprinter carries up to 13 passengers and 15 bags. For a group travelling together it keeps everyone and everything in one vehicle, which on a journey this length is worth more than it sounds.
Bags, not people, are usually what decides. Four travellers with eight large suitcases need more vehicle than four travellers with hand luggage.
What the Fare Covers
A fixed price, tolls included. Traffic does not change it.
Flight tracking. If you land late, your driver waits. There is no extra charge and nothing for you to do.
Door to door. Not to a bus station on the edge of Bursa — to your hotel.
Going for the Day
If you want to see Bursa and sleep in Istanbul, we run it as a full-day trip. The vehicle and driver stay with you rather than dropping you and leaving, which matters in a city where the sights are spread out and Uludağ is a climb above the town.
If you are staying a night or two, a one-way transfer is the simpler arrangement — and we can collect you again when you are ready to come back.
The Short Version
Bursa is worth the journey, and the journey is longer than most visitors expect. Either airport works. Decide by your bags rather than your head count, and book the transfer before you fly rather than after you land.
