Your Driver Knows Your Flight Is Late Before You Do — Here's How (2026)

Every transfer company says it tracks your flight. Very few explain what that actually means. Here is the mechanism, what it does when you land at 3am, and where it stops helping.

"We track your flight" appears on nearly every airport transfer website in Istanbul, ours included. It is a reassuring sentence that almost never comes with an explanation, which makes it hard to judge whether it means anything.

So here is ours, in full: what happens, when, and where it stops working.

What the Flight Number Actually Buys You

When you enter a flight number at booking, we do not simply file it with your details. We look it up.

The lookup returns the scheduled departure and arrival times for that specific flight on that specific date. From that we calculate the pickup time, rather than asking you to guess it.

For an arrival, the meeting time is set from when the aircraft is actually expected on the ground, not when you thought it might land.

For a departure, we work backwards. You should be at the terminal two hours before your flight. Add the road time, and that gives the pickup.

A worked example. For an 20:00 departure from Sabiha Gökçen, you want to be at the terminal by 18:00. That drive falls in the heavy part of the evening, so we allow two hours and collect you at 16:00. The same 20:00 departure from Istanbul Airport needs about an hour on the road, so pickup is 17:00.

An hour's difference for the same flight time, decided by which airport and what the traffic does at that hour. That is the arithmetic the flight number performs for you.

For an early flight the same logic runs the other way: an 08:00 departure from Sabiha Gökçen means being there by 06:00, which means a 04:30 pickup. Unwelcome, but better discovered at booking than the night before.

What Happens When the Flight Is Late

This is the part that matters, and the part that separates tracking from saying you track.

The flight is checked again close to the time. If the arrival has moved, the pickup moves with it. Your driver is dispatched against the new time, not the one printed on your ticket.

Three practical consequences:

You do not pay for the delay. The fare is fixed to the route. A three-hour delay does not become three hours of waiting time on your bill.

The driver is not gone. The most common failure in this business is a driver who waited an hour, gave up, and left — which is what happens when nobody is watching the flight.

You do not need to message us. Passengers often message from the aircraft, apologising for a delay. It is kind, but by then we have usually already moved the booking.

Where It Stops Helping

Some honesty about the limits, because the sentence "we track your flight" implies more coverage than any system has.

Tracking ends at the aircraft door. We know when the wheels touch the ground. We do not know that your passport queue is forty minutes long, that your bag is last off, or that you stopped for a SIM card. On a busy evening, the gap between landing and reaching the meeting point can be over an hour, and none of it is visible to us.

Cancellations are not rebookings. If your flight is cancelled and you are moved to another one, we cannot see that. The new flight number has to come from you.

A wrong flight number tracks nothing. A digit out and we are following someone else's aircraft. It is worth checking at booking.

Some flights return no data. Charters, recently changed schedules and a few smaller carriers do not always appear. When that happens we fall back on your stated time, which is why we ask for it as well.

What We Ask of You

Three things, and they are small.

Give us the flight number. Without it, everything above is unavailable and the pickup time is a guess.

Message us if your flight number changes. Rebooked, rerouted, moved to the next morning — one line is enough.

Keep your phone on and reachable after landing. Not because we will pester you, but because if something is wrong at the meeting point, a working phone turns a problem into a two-minute conversation.

The Point

Flight tracking is not a feature you experience directly. Done properly you never notice it, because the car is simply there when you get out, whatever time that turned out to be.

You notice it only when it is absent — standing in arrivals at two in the morning, calling a number nobody answers, looking at a booking made against a schedule that stopped being true six hours ago.
